New taster groups have been set up across South East Northumberland to support people to try new arts activities, meet new people and increase skills and confidence.
One of the groups, led by artist Elaine Porter met at the Hirst Welfare Centre, Ashington. Over 14 weeks, the group tried different arts activities together. Their creations included beautiful cushion covers, paper sculptures and lino prints, many of which have pride of place in people's homes.
Despite being strangers at the start of the sessions, many of the people from the group have become firm friends and are inspired to try new activities and share their new skills with friends and family.
Barbara from the group said, 'I come here to meet people, as I don't know many people in Ashington, it's really friendly, everyone has been really nice. It's been really challenging and really good.'
We are working with Elaine and the group to identify ways they might like to develop their group and their skills in the future.
