Young People step into Artist Rooms project

The group, who have called themselves, ‘The Mindfuls’ are being supported by Woodhorn Museum and bait to take part in the ARTIST ROOMS programme.

The ARTIST ROOMS programme is an inspiring collection of art jointly acquired by Tate London and National Galleries of Scotland through the generosity of Anthony d'Offay.

Work from New York artist, Lawrence Weiner is part of the ARTIST ROOMS collection and is currently on tour, exhibited at Woodhorn Museum.

Danielle Burn, Community Participation Co-ordinator at Woodhorn said, 'Artist Rooms aims to engage young people with Lawrence Weiner’s work by running an intensive learning programme, bringing in professional artists and creating opportunities to help find new and interesting ways for this piece of work to relate to the group of young people and the space it is exhibited.’

The unique approach of ARTIST ROOMS enables the young people to be responsible for steering the project and the tasks involved.

The group are currently working on a film in response to the Lawrence Weiner work and also an ‘art toolkit’ which aims to help future young visitors engage with the art galleries and touring exhibitions.
